Description of Working Group:
The Service Location Working Group is chartered to investigate
protocols to find and bind to service entities in a distributed internetworked
environment. Issues that must be addressed are how such a protocol would
interoperate with existing directory based services location protocols.
Protocols that would be designed by this Group would be viewed as an adjunct
to directory service protocols. These protocols would be able to provide a
bridge between directory services and current schemes for service location.
The nature of the services location problem is investigative in
principle. There is no mandate that a protocol should be drafted as part
of this process. It is the mandate of this Group to understand the operation
of services location and then determine the correct action in their view
whether it be to use current protocols to suggest a services location
architecture or to design a new protocol to compliment current architectures.
Goals and Milestones:
Done Open discussion and determine if a Working Group should be formed.
Done Continue discussion trying to refine the problem statement and
possible resolutions.
Jul 91 Do we take the RFC track or do we write a report on our conclusion
and leave it at that?
